What is Sound?
What is Sound?
Did you automatically think…music? Is music your definition of sound? Or is it noise, noise is sound? Can sound be only vibrating waves flowing through space that resonates in our ears? If so, is sound still sound when we can’t hear it?
As a musician I think I have taken the meaning of sound for granted. I have been reflecting on whether or not the sounds I create allow the listener to be sound. Of course, that phrasing can lead into its own philosophical outpouring of perspectives, so let me ask another question. Is achieving soundness a worthy goal as a human?

From a living perspective there are infinite waves, musical waves of the universe. The music of life is ever moving, changing, expanding, compounding, interacting, ever flowing. While viewing sound in this living perspective the thought has even been present – am I creating good sound? If I believe that sound is ever moving and I am part of that movement, is my movement for the good of myself and those my movements affect?

To introduce more perspectives, sound, is also thought of as chi, individual energy, conscious or your gut.
With those perspectives and then adding the ideas, creations and abilities that you have, does your sound vibrate continually through your space, or have you muted yourself?
Here are three focus points on how we mute ourselves:
Fear - fear of failure and fear of success.
Comparison - giving in to wanting what others have, thinking that is how we can truly be ourselves.
Balance - the illusion of balance and that good only comes when there is “balance”.
There were many question I asked, did you notice? So, are you considering your sound? Please join in for a listen on the Discovery Digs Podcast episode “What is Sound” for the furthering of sound and hopefully conceptualize more of your own sound.
